WHY I WROTE THIS SONG
I've never believed love is something you turn on and off. When I tell someone I love them, I mean it for as long as I'm alive. Life changes. Relationships end. People move away. Families grow in different directions. But none of that erases the place they've earned in my heart.
I've always accepted people for who they are. I never expected perfection—only honesty, respect, and for them to accept me the same way. When I dated someone who had children, I didn't just see them as "her kids." They became part of my life too. I respected their fathers, I respected the families they came from, and I tried to be someone those children could trust. I never believed kids should carry the weight of adult problems, so I did everything I could to keep them out of the middle. They didn't ask for the circumstances around them, and they deserved to feel loved no matter what happened between the adults.
When those relationships ended, my feelings didn't suddenly disappear. I wasn't looking backward, wishing life had turned out differently. I was simply grateful that those people had become part of my story. If any one of them—or their children—called me today needing help, I'd do everything I could to be there. Not because I owe them anything, but because that's what love has always meant to me.
I've been fortunate that many of those relationships grew into lifelong friendships. Some of the women I once dated are still people I genuinely care about today. Their children grew up, life moved forward, and our paths changed, but I never stopped wanting the best for them. I believe love can mature. It doesn't always stay romantic, but it can become something just as meaningful: respect, gratitude, and a sincere hope that life treats them well.
This song is my way of thanking everyone who has left a fingerprint on my life. My daughter. My son. My sister. Friends who became family. Families who welcomed me as one of their own. Children who trusted me. Every person who helped shape the man I became.
